In 1943, Lane Mercer and Emmie Tesco had nothing in common. Well, nothing stronger than a town neither of them chose and careers they couldn’t advertise as agents within the Office of Strategic Services. During the days of Longview, Texas’s Friendly Trek Homecoming Parade, Lane was gearing up for the grand opening of a bookshop that also disguised an espionage safe house, and Emmie was chasing a criminal with evil intent through the US Army’s new medical facility, Harmon General Hospital, treating diseased and amputated soldiers. Emmie ropes Lane into international threats at Harmon General, making it increasingly hard for the two spies to navigate the Junior Service League, church life, or anything else that might be considered normal for a town sizzling with oil boom wealth. A friend from Lane’s past arrives and pushes against the fiction she’s created to distance her spy history from the wedding bells ringing her future. Emmie flirts with the idea of finding a life outside of the OSS but justifies the danger as a way to make amends for those she’s betrayed. Connecting the two women, to their surprise, is a rogue agent who targets them for crimes he believes they created. For better, or worse, they have to put aside their differences to share responsibility for stopping “The Grasshopper” before he blows apart the Big Inch Pipeline project and Harmon General Hospital. The hope of malaria treatments for US soldiers depends on it, and justice of the heart demands it.

PRAISE FOR HARMON GENERAL:

"The war that changed the world brought the world to East Texas through Harmon General, a significant US Army hospital that treated thousands of wounded soldiers in Longview.  In Harmon General, we meet again Lane Mercer, a World War II heroine, and we enjoy again how the drama of her secret service to the nation and her complicated personal relationships pull us into the vast impact of the world war." -- Dale Lunsford, Ph.D., President, LeTourneau University

Harmon General is a brilliant story for historical fiction readers! Set in World War II, the female spies, Army hospital setting, and drama amongst the Longview townsfolk kept me riveted and engaged until the very end.” - Jody T. Morse

EXCERPT FROM HARMON GENERAL
BY KIMBERLY FISH

“Mr. Lassiter says I have to give customers three reasons to come to my shop, so I’m thinking through what else someone might need when they’re on the hunt for a good book. In these days of rations, I think cookies would be a plus.”

Molly narrowed her papery lids. “Do you spend a lot of time with Mr. Lassiter? I’ve always thought he was a … confirmed bachelor.”

Lane didn’t know enough about J’s backstory, but she’d bet Molly had a dossier worthy of Theo’s files. Once she was past the machinations of her aunt, and the Junior Service League, she’d tackle getting Molly’s information.

“At the moment, he’s my business professor,” Lane said. “But if there’s something you feel I need to know, don’t hold back.”

“Nonsense, dear.” Molly clutched her belt. Her mouth pinched as if lunch was coming back to repeat. “I’m sure he’s a lovely man. He’s just not from around here, now is he?”

The more Lane lived in Longview, the more she understood the caste system. Outsiders were a commodity best endured with distance.

Prepping was his way of life.

Lincoln realizes it’s every man for himself when the big cities are swarming with the military and the law disappears in the tiny town of Dessarillo, Texas, causing chaos to erupt. People Lincoln’s known for years were attacking their friends and family with their minds set on eating them limb by limb. He’d been prepared for this exact moment, waiting for disaster to strike so he could take a front row seat to society’s self destruction.

As an outcast, he learned to rely on no one. Until he unexpectedly finds his life in the hands of his neighbor, Wyatt, the man proving to be trustworthy. Together they try to carve out a safe place while people are turning into flesh eating monsters, decaying from the inside out, and destroying humanity one bite at a time.

Where did your love of books, writing, and reading come from?
Love of books and reading came with the Boxcar Children. I could not get enough of that series and probably read them all. I’m a sucker for mysteries and luckily for me almost every book has some type of mystery in it. Love of writing came later in life. I had all these stories and ideas that kept vying for my attention and I finally sat down and typed them out. Finishing them is the next task.
Do you think you’d survive in Gun, Ration, Rigs and the Undead?
Hands down no. I’m not athletic, I have cravings like pregnant women, and I’m so clumsy I’d probably hurt myself with a weapon before I actually killed anything. Living without girl scouts cookies just doesn’t have any appeal for me.
Anything you are working on next?
Oh so many things are coming I just need the time to finish them all. The second zombie book will be out in the fall and Entangled Collateral 2 (title unknown) will be out next year. A kick ass Princess is in the foreseeable future and retellings of some Brother Grimms stories. So the zombie apocalypse needs to wait until I get them done before it can be official.
What do you like to read in your free time?
Mysteries and Fantasy are usually in my hands if I’m reading. Along with some type of snack, don’t worry I wipe my fingers before I turn the pages. Books with twists and turns are my favorite, I love it when I can’t guess what’s going to happen. I also do love a good death and absolutely hate when authors bring people back from the dead without consequences. The only exception is the Winchester brothers. They can come back as many times as they want.
Where is one place you want to visit and haven’t been before?
One day I will make it to the Great Barrier Reef. Will it be there? I have no idea, but I’d like to see it unless it disappears. In that case I’d like to go to Asia, that’s right I picked a whole continent, it’s called cheating at a question and I do it often. I’m fascinated with monks, which can be seen in my fantasy book Nirvana.

Settled in Southern Nevada, Kendra spends her time trying to convince her two Yorkies to stop staring at her while she eats. She is a proud spouse of a Veteran and mother of two boys. When she’s not writing about the next adventure for her readers, she’s traveling on her own.
