to discover that this story begins with a line that hooked me and reeled me
right in: “Anything could happen while the dead slept.” Do tell, I thought as I leaned in with my cappuccino in one hand
and my glasses perched on the bridge of my nose.

I quickly discovered that Mills skillfully weaves an
elaborate story of betrayal, greed, and vengeance and stitches in just the
right amount of loyalty, friendship, romance, and, believe it or not, faith to
create a riveting thriller. Oh, and did I mention there’s big oil? And did I
mention that I love me some big Texas oil? What more could I ask for?
I’ll tell you what…
Great characters. That’s what I could ask for, and that’s
what I found living and breathing within the gorgeous covers of this book. I
immediately cared about the characters as if they are as real as you and I.
Each of them has a back story, and Mills successfully unfolds the stories by
showing and not telling. How marvelous!
I’m trying not to give away any spoilers here, because this
book deserves to be devoured by an unsuspecting reader. But I do want to share
a couple of my favorite quotes from the book:
Yes, you are correct. I still haven’t told you why Deep Extraction is the perfect title for
this book. The answer is that the main characters in this book are drawn into
such a deep well, searching, digging, drilling for the truth of who killed
Nathan Moore, the powerful Houston oil man. (Kinda like “Who Shot JR” but better!)
And like those roughnecks who strike oil, Mills’ characters uncover the whole
messy, delicious payload! It simply is a marvelous read that will keep you up
into the wee hours of the morning.
