Told from the perspective of a Texas Jackrabbit named Hitchin’ Post, this adorable book takes the reader through the ups and downs of life on a Texas ranch.

Have I told y’all lately that I love children’s books? Well, I do, dagnabit! Six B’s Hitchin’ Post charmed the cowgirl boots right off my hooves!

There are many things about this delightful book that I adored. First and foremost, this book was illustrated by the mama of the author. I love doing projects with my own daughter, and knowing that this book was the work of art by a mother-daughter team won my heart over!

This lovely book has a great moral: love where you are and be thankful for those around you. In a world where our kids are inundated with hate and bullies and even cartoons with weird messages, this little book has a great grounding message. Hitchin’ Post would be a great addition to any kid’s library!

Back to the illustrations: Altman’s illustrations are so cute. I can imagine a child drinking them in while a parent or teacher…or older sibling… reads the rhyming story to him/her. Oh, did I mention that I love rhyming stories? Well, well, well, let me tell ya that I do, thank you very much! And so do kids!

Rhymes create a love of words and poetry, a sense of rhythm, and impart a love of reading. If you ask me, all children’s books should be written in rhyme. But you didn’t, so I digress.

This book feels great in your hands. The illustrations are large and colorful. It would be great for reading at home, in the library, or in the classroom. It’s quite lovely in person. I encourage everyone to grab a copy for your favorite child. And don’t forget to scroll down to enter to win a copy!

Six B’s Hitchin’ Post is flat out adorable!

I, therefore, grant Ole Hitchin’ Post and his ranch
5 Fabulous Brooms!

Julie Barker was born and raised in west Texas, and currently resides in Quanah, Texas, with her husband and three children.  She maintained her west Texas roots into college when she attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, receiving a degree in social work.  Julie has grown up surrounded by the ranching heritage, and felt drawn to share this way of life through the adventures of the little cowboy jackrabbit, Hitchin’ Post.  Hitchin’ Post marks Julie’s debut into the world of children’s literature.  She was fortunate to have her mother, artist Carolyn Altman, provide the cute, whimsical illustrations of old Hitch and the 6Bs, making this project extra special.
