I’m sure y’all’ve noticed this year that I’ve reviewed some books that are outside of my usual tastes here on Books & Broomsticks. It’s always good to keep abreast of what’s going on in other genres and such … it helps to feed the imagination. So, when I was presented with the opportunity of reading and reviewing 100 THINGS TO DO IN DALLAS FORT WORTH BEFORE YOU DIE by Tui Snider, I was totes open for the new adventure. After all, what’s better than traveling via book (leaving sci-fi out of this question, because y’all know how I lurve me some o’ dat).

There are reviews of similar books here on my blog, so I was eager to dive into my e-copy of this book and dive on in for some North East Texas adventure. After all, Texas is an exciting, multi-cultural bonanza of colorful goodness in all its glory. There are so many things to do, places to go, foods to eat, and funs to be had in a state that is the size of … and once was … an actual country all its own.

Snider really does bring on the goods when providing a plethora of interesting and varied places to go and things to do in the DFW area of The Republic of Texas. This fun-packed book is divided into handy sections: Food and Drink, Music and Entertainment, Sports and Recreation, Culture and History, Shopping and Fashion, Suggested Itineraries, and Activities by Season.
There’s even an Index at the back, and y’all know how I lurve me some indexes. Helloooo ... English major here, yo!  But I digress.

Back to the part I mentioned above about Texas being a bonanza of colorful goodness. Though I found 100 THINGS TO DO IN DALLAS FORT WORTH BEFORE YOU DIE to be uniformly charming, I confess that I felt let down at discovering a book rich in photos is presented entirely in black and white. I flipped through the pages, ready for deliciously vibrant windows into my beautiful state only to discover that those windows were drab and lifeless impressions. How sad I felt at this. I don’t know if this was done intentionally in an attempt at creating some artistic feel. But if that was the case, the attempt fell flat as a flitter.

Another issue I had in perusing the e-copy I’d received for review was that, on my Kindle, the type was so small that I could barely read it. Tsk tsk tsk.

DFW is a fun place to visit, and Snider certainly put a list together of some great places to go and things to do and see. Her book is certainly a helpful guide to anyone interested in taking in all the sites and activities in that part of Texas. I just wish that at least some the photos had been in color.
Nonetheless, I do suggest it to anyone who is interested in taking a trip-by-book, or who is looking to plan an actual trip, to the DFW area. It’s a worthwhile read!

And that’s why I hereby grant
